Last night I grabbed my girl and G Pen and hit the Grove. From the first time I saw this trailer, I knew it was a Star Trek that was worth seeing. Before we went in, we did pile up on candy at Dylan’s Candy Bar, the vanilla clusters are awesome! Anyhow, I really enjoyed this film. J.J. Abrams did a great job directing this, creating a solid popcorn blend of adventure with bold storytelling (especially with inverting the original storyline), so much in fact it harkened me back to the 80’s, a golden era that spawned classic popcorn flicks like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Goonies, Dark Crystal, etc. Visually, the lens flares really lent to that aesthetic, but what really satisfied me here was the surprisingly quality acting. J.J. was able to pin down what I call the emotional core, in every single scene, something I really hadn’t expected from this film. And Kahn lived up to the great villain of previous iterations, who had his own take that felt uniquely sinister. This film was solid in every category. And did anybody notice that the Starfleet HQ was shot at the Getty Museum? I personally say go see this film. Here’s the international trailer..
